From a robin singing the opening notes of the dawn chorus at 4.35am to a tawny owl passing over at 9.23pm, John Miller - trustee of the Atlantic Salmon Trust, Curlew Action and an Ambassador for Conservation Communications - charted all 38 bird species that visited his Wiltshire garden in a single spring day, aided by a sound recordist and photographer. The result is the striking One Day A Thousand Songs. He heads to Henley with fascinating insights into the birds’ battles, triumphs, nests and eggs - plus advice on creating an insect-free garden and using the Merlin Bird ID app.
