In 1951 the Peak District became Britain’s first national park, a move sparked by a ‘mass trespass’ of Kinder Scout by 400 ramblers wanting a right to roam, against the wishes of wealthy landowners. 75 years on, celebrated travel writer Tom Chesshyre joins us with Wild Peaks, charting the home of hiking’s history and his own 363-mile ramble from Manchester to Sheffield. Via the striking dragon-back rock ridges, cloughs and caverns, he meets a rich cast of farmers, climbers, publicans and dreamers.
Tom will be in conversation with Mark Palmer.
